OM Yoga Restorative Teacher Training
OM Yoga Restorative Teacher Training Instructor: Cyndi Lee
Restorative yoga moves us into a state of being, away from the normal activity of the body and the mind. Using props and long holds, it channels the energies through specific pathways and creates a deep sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. During this OM Yoga Restorative Teacher Training, we'll practice a full sequence of restorative poses. Then we'll look at several key restorative asanas and work with partners to teach these poses to each other. This workshop also includes discussion about how to build your own sequences and how to offer these poses in studios without many props. Come gain confidence in teaching restorative yoga classes and incorporating them into your regular active yoga classes.

Neck, Shoulders, and Upper Back in Purna Yoga
Neck, Shoulders, and Upper Back in Purna Yoga Instructor: Aadil Palkhivala
Most of us carry tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. When we hold tension here, we shrink blood vessels and thereby create pain and stiffness in this area, which can lead to headaches and fatigue. This tension in our upper spine reduces our ability to think clearly, communicate, and express what we need to say. Learn simple techniques for releasing tension in these key areas, and promote a stronger and clearer mind-body connection.

Eight Limbs of Yoga
Eight Limbs of Yoga Instructor: Aadil Palkhivala & Rod Stryker
Limbs 1 through 4 with Aadil Palkhivala | 8:00am-12:00pm Traditionally, students were not allowed to practice asana or pranayama when they first began their yogic quest. The great masters wisely believed that until aspirants had applied the yamas and niyamas to their lives, they were not ready to handle the powerful nature of asana and pranayama. Yama and niyama are the foundations of all yoga practice. Aadil will teach the yamas and niyamas from a new and deeper perspective so that the following practice of asana and pranayama is more meaningful.
Limbs 5 through 8 with Rod Stryker | 2:00pm-5:00pm The ultimate experience of yoga is revealed through the final four limbs of ashtanga yoga. When understood and practiced according to the ancient teachings these steps become effortless and unlock limitless rewards. Through lecture and practice, we'll explore the hidden teachings that demystify limbs 5 through 8. Our focus is applying the sublime wisdom to become a seamless extension of asana and pranayama which unfolds the profound potential of the final steps of yoga.

How Yoga Has Scandalized Americans and Shaped Our Understanding of the Practice
Scan the headlines about yoga, and you'll notice a pattern: yoga cures back pain, helps you lose weight, reduces stress and fatigue, and on and on. Despite yoga's rampant popularity, we yogis almost compulsively promote the discipline. But few understand why. Americans started practicing yoga as soon as teachers arrived from India; but outsiders--the press, self-appointed moral guardians, and disgruntled family members--just as quickly damned it as corrupting of body and soul. In this illuminating keynote address, we'll discuss the most florid attacks on yoga from the 19th and early 20th centuries, unpack the more subtle apologetics of yoga in America post-1960, and then explain how these have shaped our experience of the discipline both then and now.
Stefanie Syman, a literature graduate of Yale University, was a founder of Feed, an early award-winning Web magazine. She has written for the Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Vogue, and Yoga Journal. A native of Los Angeles, she lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and has practiced yoga for more than 15 years.
