Injury Prevention and Recovery
Alexandria Crow - Course ID: M1CROW
Art of Teaching

1Saturday, April 9 — 8:00am - 10:00am
Main Weekend - Session 1

Getting injured is an inevitable part of life and if we're wise, we can learn some of the most valuable lessons from our injuries. As a yoga practitioner our aim is to injure ourselves and others as little as possible in everything we do including asana. To do this we must learn and teach the difference between beneficial discomfort and injurious pain. The injurious pain signal is one that requires an immediate change in approach and is a call to attention that something is about to go very wrong, but even when we're incredibly diligent sometimes we still make errors in judgment and get injured. When an injury occurs the road back to health can be a scary and frustrating one but it doesn't have to be. In this workshop, we'll explore how to prevent injuries from happening by understanding the range of motion joints have and how to ask our students not to move past the limits of their physical structure. We'll then further this and look at how to approach healing once an injury has occurred both physically and most importantly how to handle the mind's thoughts about injury and the recovery process.

Discussion and asana.

Intrinsic Core Flow
Amy Ippoliti - Course ID: M1IPPO
Mixed Levels

1Saturday, April 9 — 8:00am - 10:00am
Main Weekend - Session 1

A good yoga practice should help you move better, not just pose better. To move with ease and develop true core strength for a lifetime sustainable practice on and off the mat, it's critical to initiate movement from your deep, intrinsic muscles instead of just recruiting your main movers like the quads, glutes, and pecs. This deliciously deep flow takes you on a journey through essential movement while still gaining mobility and strength in the larger muscle groups. Great for those needing a more therapeutic journey through essential, but totally strengthening, movement. You will sweat!

**This class has been approved by American Council on Exercise (ACE) for 0.2 CECs.**

This class focuses on the body's role in transformation as we examine the significance of the body in mindfulness-based practices such as interoceptive awareness. Drawing from emerging research in neuroscience, we'll explore integral elements of a practice that builds mindfulness, interoception, and emotional health. The wisdom practices of yoga and mindfulness, combined with insights from modern science and psychology, help us get to the heart of matter. Through these practices, we can create the embodied awareness that serves as a touchstone for change.
