Yoga Body, Buddha Mind Instructor: Cyndi Lee
Explore how the mutual support of hatha yoga and Buddhist meditation help us bring our bodies and minds into balance. Cyndi will introduce shamatha, traditional Buddhist mindfulness meditation, as a path toward making friends with ourselves, creating a gap between stimuli and response, and leading to more options for a rich, joyful, and beneficial life. Then, we'll tuck this work into a fun, powerful asana class as inspiration for moving through our daily lives with clarity and spaciousness. In the second half of the workshop, Cyndi will introduce maitri contemplative meditation and integrate that compassion building work into a backbending asana class. Don't worry--our assignment is not to do the fanciest bow pose but to explore the potential for unconditional friendliness, even when we are upside down and inside out. We'll finish up the day with some restorative work to remind us of the importance of letting go and opening.

Embodied Equanimity: To Stand in the Middle of All This Instructor: Cyndi Lee
Yoga is not a magic pill to calm your irritation or stimulate your boredom. It is about standing in the middle of life with a sense of inner strength, resilience, and spaciousness. Learn the classic teaching of upekka, or equanimity, an eight-fold practice that literally shifts the ground of one's existence, away from habitual drama and toward what Buddhist texts call "the radiant calm of the mind." Asana is the perfect vehicle for this practice, because you can't get radiant or calm or present or strong without your body. Be ready to go slow, or a little faster, to pay attention, and not buy into everything you think-- because it's all impermanent anyway.
