Matthew Sanford is an Iyengar-style yoga teacher who is paralyzed from the chest down. He is the author of Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence and founder of the nonprofit Mind Body Solutions. A leading voice in the integrative health movement, Matthew received a Karma Yoga Award from Yoga Journal in 2003.

Although different asanas utilize and confront gravity in different ways, they often share a lot in common. We’ll explore how the influence of gravity teaches different things in a variety of asanas. Matthew Sanford is a pioneer both in adapting yoga for people living with disabilities and in advocating for a mind-body approach to our medical and rehabilitation practices. He will use his unique perspective as a paraplegic and an Iyengar Yoga practitioner to give participants basic guidelines for adapting yoga and applying yogic insights to transform the delivery of health care.
