Friday, January 16 8:00am-5:00pm: All-Day Collaborative Intensives Code: AIUZEN
The UZ Foundation is dedicated to creating a new category of health care practitioner, the Urban Zen Integrative Therapist (www.urbanzen.org ). Urban Zen Integrative Therapists will integrate invaluable yoga techniques and teach complementary health care practices that aid in caring for patients in multiple clinical and health care settings. During this day-long intensive, we will explore specific techniques in asana, pranayama, and meditation that address common symptoms of pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, confusion, constipation (PANIC), and fatigue. The day will also include special presentations by aromatherapy experts on how aromatherapy can help to reduce symptoms and enhance patients’ healing. While these techniques are ideal for patients in the medical setting, they are also completely appropriate in the yoga classroom and in everyday life. Presenters include Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman, Richard Freeman, Richard Rosen, Aromatherapy experts from Young Living Oils, and Urban Zen faculty Jamie Naughright and Ed Dailey. The day will include meditation, pranayama, asana, lecture, discussion, clinical practice, and take home techniques.

When we open our hip joints evenly, they act as perfect gateways from our legs to our torso. Ideally, the thighbones are centered in the hip sockets, and the joints are fluid yet strong. Through myriad postures, sequenced with knowledge and intuition, we'll return to the true capacity of our hip joints. Mostly asana.

Every posture is a balance pose as we extend the muscles and stack the bones like sacred architecture to optimize the way our weight is carried. As the asanas breathe, we refine the balance through the center of the bones with nuance, and minute adjustments. Come move through a multitude of asanas to learn how to play this game of balance. Mostly asana.

We can address our fear through backbends, whether restorative or drop backs. We'll approach difficulty by taking incremental steps and by anchoring ourselves in our center and to Mother Earth. As we dialog by balancing around our center and on the earth, our backbends can bring us sustainable openness. Mostly asana.
